Volunteer

We love volunteers! CFT is a nonprofit theater, and a donation of your time is a deeply meaningful way to give. If you are interested in operating concessions, assisting with administrative tasks, or are handy behind the scenes, we’d love to hear from you! During production, volunteers help us with front of house tasks, and then get to see the show for free.

About Working with CFT

Crowded Fire Theater provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all who work for and/or apply to work for Crowded Fire, without regard to race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, creed, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, military and veteran status, or disability (mental & physical).

Crowded Fire Theater is committed to a diversity of voices on and off the stage, and we seek to remove any of the structural barriers that prevent a broad landscape of candidates making it through the door. We present clear and flexible criteria for our job postings, to reduce applicant self-censoring, and we avoid the creation of unnecessary barriers that may otherwise preclude candidates from reaching us with their interest in working with Crowded Fire.

Since 2013, Crowded Fire Theater has worked to right-size the financial stability of the organization, setting aggressive and intentional goals to raise staff salaries and artist fees. While we navigate these financial waters, we believe transparency in our staff salary ranges and in our hourly artist rates is critical in order to build trust and engage with our community of artists, with as much clarity as possible around the compensation we offer.

Artist compensation is currently set at a minimum of $21 per hour. Year-round, part-time staff are compensated between $25-$27 per hour, except for specific grant-funded positions and specialized expert roles (e.g., Lead Electrician or Technical Director) that are hired as needed at a higher rate. Co-Executive Director compensation is set to the minimum rate required by law to qualify as salaried non-exempt ($70,304 annually).
