These 11 companies met at the Theatre for Public Good summit in Boston in September 2026:
In 2024, Crowded Fire joined a cohort of five theatre companies around shared values and a question: What can we do together that we cannot do alone?
The National Cohort for a New American Theatre (NCNAT) consists of Cleveland Public Theatre in Ohio, Company One in Massachusetts, Crowded Fire Theater in California, Mosaic Theater Company in Washington, D.C., and Perseverance Theatre in Alaska.
With our collective impacts around the country and our commitment to our communities, the cohort was generously funded by the Mellon Foundation under the title “the Future of American Theatre Cohort”. This funding helped support the sustainability of the organizations as well as regular convenings to each theater’s city in order to share learnings and hands on experiences directly from their organizations and communities.
