A Theatre for Public Good uses its space, craft, and convening power to strengthen community health and inspire community action towards building a more equitable democracy.
We’re committed to…
These 11 companies met at the Theatre for Public Good summit in Boston in September 2026:
In 2024, Crowded Fire joined a cohort of five theatre companies around shared values and a question: What can we do together that we cannot do alone?
The National Cohort for a New American Theatre (NCNAT) consists of Cleveland Public Theatre in Ohio, Company One in Massachusetts, Crowded Fire Theater in California, Mosaic Theater Company in Washington, D.C., and Perseverance Theatre in Alaska.
With our collective impacts around the country and our commitment to our communities, the cohort was generously funded by the Mellon Foundation under the title “the Future of American Theatre Cohort”. This funding helped support the sustainability of the organizations as well as regular convenings to each theater’s city in order to share learnings and hands on experiences directly from their organizations and communities.
See the 2024 Article from American Theatre Magazine:
“The organizations in this cohort have already begun collective exploration and peer mentorship with the common goal of building more equitable ecologies within their communities, prioritizing fair wages for artists and staff while deepening reciprocal local and national relationships.”
