Throughout the story, there are depictions of violence and control, including physical altercations, restraint, assault with a Bible, use of a stun gun, and moments of abduction. Scenes also include blood, roadkill, and characters struggling with mental illness.
The narrative includes descriptions of self-harm, suicide, and a fatal car accident, as well as references to conversion therapy, fascism and Nazism, homophobia, corporal punishment, torture and coercion (including waterboarding), attempted murder, animal cruelty, and homelessness. Profanity and homophobic slurs are used in the dialogue.
The production also incorporates water-based haze, sudden loud sounds, and strobing light effects.
