It’s 1958 and women across the country are at once intrigued, excited, and infuriated by an underground radio personality broadcasting illegally over the airwaves. Best friends, Linda, Karen, and Cindy are no exception. Inspired by the Greek heroine, the pirated program’s host takes on ‘Lysistrata’ as her moniker. With untoward honesty and humor she crafts an army of housewives to challenge the sexual repression and cultural anxiety of the time, putting herself and the women who love her in danger. One play, three experiences. Performed in a beautiful Victorian-style home in Berkeley, this site-specific piece will give you the choice of following one of three individual characters through the private chambers of a house where the smell of home cooking and muffled sounds of arguments and love-making make for a true slice of life (and pie!) experience. Join Linda, Cindy, and Karen as their lives are touched, shaken, and changed by one woman’s revolution. When purchasing, select one of three characters to follow: Meet CINDY, a consummate housewife forced to choose between the traditions that she has mastered and a bold new path that frightens and intrigues her. To follow Cindy as she makes her way through a world of lies, nuclear war, and pie-making, select "Cindy" when purchasing tickets. |
