A Hard Heart
"The actors' chilling ability to be so much
in dialogue with one another and yet remain so isolated allows the
Crowded Fire production to really speak about the nature of interpersonal
walls."
S.F. Bay Guardian
A Hard Heart
by Howard Barker
directed by Kevin E. Humbert
played
September October,
1999 at the Phoenix II Theatre, in San Francisco.
Barker's text leaps from the battlements of the city, to the disarray ofRiddler's architectural drawings, to the citizens starving in the streets. He explores each of these settings with his unique combination of poetry and politics. A frequent presence on the London stage, Barker's scripts are rarely performed in the United States, and Crowded Fire was excited to bring this Bay Area premiere to the Phoenix II Theatre.
