People often wonder what compels an artist? Why are we so
driven or consumed by our need to explore, express, connect,
and commune? Why perform at all? For me this passion is fueled
by the desire to be a part of something greater than myself.
I feel more complete as a human being when I can reach beyond
the boundaries of my own existence and share with others. If
I can somehow touch or move another person through the art
of theater (storytelling), then it helps to confirm & reaffirm
my own existence.
In 2002, Crowded Fire Theater Company & I collided on
a project - which became my introduction to the company. A
couple of years later, I was invited to join them as an ensemble
member. Presently, the company is expanding and changing under
new leadership. For my part, most recently, I was cast in two
of the four staged readings Crowded Fire produced through the
Matchbox Reading Series. It was a whirlwind of a weekend! I
had two completely different experiences in three days--two
different roles, two different directors with unique processes,
and two emerging playwrights. Both playwrights were in residence,
rewriting and changing the script as we, the actors, adjusted.
It was just one of the challenging and fulfilling opportunities
Crowded Fire can provide for me.
I'm excited about what's ahead, including My Name is Vera
Cupido, in which I'll be performing in 2008. Adopt me! Consider
this - If you can donate to Crowded Fire, you're helping to
directly contribute to my personal success. Who doesn't love
a good story? Come along on the journey, let's crowd around
the fire.
